The students selected photographs from their trip to London, showing everyday situations as well as typical English icons, based on their own experiences.

Students created scenes from Brothers Grimm fairytales set in the Black Forest where the Danube has its source. They used a paper-cut technique inspired by Lotte Reiniger.

The pupils’ artwork illustrates parties, the summer, youth and freedom, which all reflect life by the river Danube in Szentendre.

The students chose some key Shakespearian characters and using the film The Labyrinth as inspiration they began by working in groups to create the characters using their hands and bodies.

‘The workshop was inspirational both for the pupils and for the teacher! A fantastic idea carried out by supportive and knowledgeable practitioners. Excellent!’ Susannah Keay (teacher), Fortismere School

‘This project introduced me to a new and fun type of art which I thoroughly enjoyed.’ Chris East (pupil), Fortismere School

An Introduction to our School

Fortismere is a large and successful secondary school and sixth form in North London in the borough of Haringey. It has approximately 1600 students and about 200 members of staff.

One of the best things about Fortismere is that there is no uniform!!

Our average school day includes 5 one hour long lessons, a 20 minute morning break and a 50 minute lunchbreak.

The area around Fortismere is relatively calm, relaxed and safe. People are very friendly. We all enjoy Fortismere. One thing we would change is the swimming pool which needs to be cleaned!

Móricz Zsigmond Secondary Grammar School

Our school is in Szentendre, not far from the Hungarian capital, Budapest.

There are 500 students and 35 teachers. The students are 15-18 years old. They learn art and science subjects (literature, maths etc), two different languages, sport.

Everybody has to learn English. Fortunately most of the students like it and they can't wait trying their knowledge with native speakers.:)
