Using River Culture as their theme, students created dragon boats based on British cultural icons.
They worked with mixed materials to create their works and the images were then scanned and arranged into a final poster in the form of ancient Chinese painting.
‘I got to know the Thames River and the dragon boat festival through this programme. I worked together with my friends to make our dragon boat.’
Yu Hanqi (pupil), Lantian Middle School
The pupils researched the symbolism of Chinese dragons and learned traditional paper-cutting.
‘The project encouraged problem solving, teamwork and collaborative learning and adds a global dimension to the curriculum. Pupils were offered the opportunity to explore contemporary as well as traditional forms of art.’ Mel Darke (teacher), The Charter School
‘The most enjoyable part has been seeing everyone’s excellent work together.' Ellie Bailey (pupil), The Charter School
