Egyptian Museum Project
Students researched Ancient Egyptian culture concentrating on symbols and artifacts.
The group worked in pairs to produce canopic jars. Canopic jars contained the liver, lungs intestines and stomach of the mummies.
To decorate them they used other research they had gathered from the ancient Egyptian time such as hieroglyphics, the Eye of Horus which were painted on coffins so that mummies could ‘look out’ and the scarab beetle a religious symbol.

A Day in the Life!
Hello, my name is Nahim and I live in Poplar and I go to St Paul’s Way Community School. I don’t live close to St Paul’s way Community School, but I do have an Oyster Card which lets me get on the bus for free and travel to School much faster. At the moment I am in year 8 and in September I am moving to year 9. My School is nice but I know that the School get much bigger and nicer when it is rebuilt in 2010. I do so many subjects like maths, science, English, P.E, history, geography, art and design, food technology, music, modern foreign languages (Bengali, Spanish and French) and drama. My favourite subject is drama because you can act all you like and can have fun and you get to do anything you like on stage, but some times it’s a bit scary with people looking at you. After School I either ride my bike or play football and some times I stay home if I feel bored, I play on my PlayStation 2 or Nintendo Wii.
It would be really cool to find out what a day in the life is like for students in Egypt...
Hello, my name is Ahtik Ahmed. I go to St Paul’s Way Community School.
I visited the British museum because; we had to gather pictures to get an idea of Egypt. I drew an Eagle because I knew that it would be challenging for me as I know that I am good at Art. Also it linked to the Egyptians. When I came back to School two artists came and did the workshop on how to make a relief. I drew an Egyptian Eagle on to a coloured metal and I added a lot of textures. I am very happy with my final design. I could improve it by adding more 3D effect and more texture also to add boldness to it.
My name is Sajna Khatun and I go to St Paul way community school. I am working on a project called ‘Rivers of the World’ and it’s for the Thames festival. My class and I have been working together to make a poster to put on the Southbank in London. The Southbank is an area of London right next to the Thames River. It is a great place and everybody who lives or travels to London should try and visit it – there are loads of attractions there, like galleries, theatres, performance artists and even skateboarders!
I went through a few stages to make the final result for our banner; firstly we went to the British museum to collect ideas and further our knowledge.
Secondly we drew pictures based on nature that live in or by the Thames. We drew them as detailed as possible. We then stuck the metal piece of paper behind the drawings and we went over the picture so it would engrave onto the metal. We added more texture and patterns to make it have an Egyptian feel – like the hieroglyphics and reliefs we’d seen at the museum.
Once we finished making our detailed relief Pete took pictures and we designed our final poster on the computer.
I am proud of the relief that I made. I thought by making a fern symbolises the feathers in the hieroglyphics, I also thought it was a great experience and an exciting part of art.
I am looking forward to seeing it on the Southbank.
Hi, my name is Samiur Rahman 8T from St Paul Way School. I visited the British Museum, to see the, Egyptian Artefacts as my school is linked to a school in Egypt.
When I came back to school, two artists came and ran a workshop on how to make metal relief. I drew an Egyptian image then I was given a piece of coloured metal, I stuck the metal on the back of my picture and traced it. I drew lots of Egypt pictures, of hieroglyphics and a variety of owls, animals and a tomb. I am happy with my final result. I could improve my work by doing more texture. I can’t wait to see then finished banner up on the Thames.
