On the 22nd of March, instead of normal lessons, we spent the whole of the day producing artwork to show in the Thames festival. We learnt how to use water-colour inks make collages, and our work improved throughout the day. It was a great experience, and a welcome alternative to normal lessons.
We painted water in shapes on fabriano paper and dropped ink onto various points. The ink spread like an explosion, and produced a wonderful effect which, when dried, was scanned into the computer to arrange on the final board.
After break we started making collages of prawns, crabs and other various shellfish. We cut out shapes from magazines and arranged them to take the form of a figure. As the day went on, the collages became more and more imaginative and witty, using melons for eyes and legs for tentacles on shellfish-based creations that were progressing in strangeness and ridicule. I hope that the day’s work can be used well and put together in the best way possible.
My name is Louis and I live in Ealing, which is about an hour away from the school by bus. I’m 13, part English, Scottish, Swedish and Lithuanian. I have a younger brother and two cats, and enjoy reading, writing, and watching films. I also like sport. I am glad I was selected to take part, as the work has been fun and I’ve learnt a lot.
This is the area to document your art workshops when the artists come and visit your school – have fun and be creative!
- Why don’t you add a list of the participating pupils?
You could take and embed a group photo as a way of introducing the pupils involved in the project
You can start a gallery and show images of the workshop process
You could create a collage effect and show the final work of all the pupils
The pupils could each write a ‘blog’ about the their workshop process and what they have learnt and enjoyed
Film and record the workshops and add podcasts and video clips to your page
